EAST STROUDSBURG -- More than a dozen law enforcement agencies were on campus at East Stroudsburg University Wednesday, all for a little bit of fun.
Police cars, officers, and troopers all filled the quad at East Stroudsburg University. Sixteen different agencies showed off their stuff for the annual law enforcement day.
"We're actually trying to create a partnership for an ongoing dialogue between our law enforcement partners and our students here at East Stroudsburg University," said professor of criminal justice Richard Ruck.
The event is in its third year and helps students looking to advance into a career of protecting and serving the community.
"Whatever I always want to do with my life is I want to help somebody, help the community and stuff like that, so that's hopefully whatever I end up doing, I can do that," said criminal justice major Michael Godfrey.
K-9 Nico from Pocono Mountain Regional Police helped with hands-on demonstrations, showing just how important these police dogs are in the field.
Cpl. Matt Nero says his dog and fellow officers love opportunities like this to teach.
"It is special. It's really neat to show our future what they could be doing, and it's something I wish I did when I was in college," said Cpl. Nero.
Law enforcement officers say interactive demonstrations like this aren't just fun and informative, they're also helping build a sense of community.
"I think it's good for the image for the police, too, how it's been recently, stuff like that. You know it's nice to see everyone working together," said Godfrey.
Students both young and old spent time asking questions, learning, and some dreaming of the day they can put on a uniform.
Officers say it's days like this that make the job worthwhile.
"We appreciate when people come up and say, 'Hey, we appreciate what you're doing, the job that you're doing.' And we give back, so it's neat to see the positive stuff every now and then," said Nero.
