NEPA businesses busy at Pocono Raceway

Businesses from across our area are setting up shop at the raceway for thousands of fans. Newswatch 16's Emily Kress spoke with several local vendors.

MONROE COUNTY, Pa. — The trucks are starting to warm up on the Tricky Triangle at Pocono Raceway in Long Pond and fans are getting pumped.

"Seeing Denny Hamlin win the race, that's my prediction he's going to win," said Jake Jones of Stroudsburg.

Thousands of fans are spending the weekend camping in the infield, and with that crowd comes the vendors. Race fans say they have their favorite stands.

"Becky's hotdogs to get coffee in the morning, you can't beat it," said Jones.

You'll find many businesses from across northeastern Pennsylvania cashing in on the crowds. Main Street Moonshine from Schuylkill Haven has set up shop here at Pocono Raceway for the past four years.

"Friday night and Saturday night are our big times because otherwise people are watching the race, they're not out here in the infield. So when the bands are playing, it's packed," said owner Lori Michael.

The vendors here at Pocono Raceway go way beyond t-shirts and food. To get around this giant infield of several square miles, another hot item for sale: e-bikes.

Bronson e-bikes from Lehighton has been a vendor at the race for several years. Owner Gary Huntington says he's already sold more than a dozen bikes so far.

"It gives people something to do. For a two-and-a-half mile track and from here to get to the bathroom is a long way, so the bikes work great," said Huntington.

The Berwick Marching Band came from Columbia County. They're selling Pocono Raceway merchandise to raise money for the band's competition trips.

"This is one of our biggest fundraising opportunities that we do so it's really important for us to come back to Pocono every year," said Kaydia Wright, a senior at Berwick High School.

Tickets for The Great American Getaway 400 on Sunday are still available.
