POCONO TOWNSHIP -- The first and only roller coaster in the Pocono Mountains will be giving people a thrilling ride starting at the end of July.
The coaster is part of Camelback Mountain Resort.
Crews are in the process of building a 4,500 foot-long roller coaster. It's the first and only one of its kind in the Pocono Mountains. The coaster will also be open year round.
"You get on the cart at the bottom and it pulls you to the top of the mountain. It's gravity based. You control your speed and you have your own brakes on there," said Megan McHugh of Camelback Mountain Resort.
The Camelback Mountain Coaster is being installed in an unused area of the mountain, right next to Camelbeach Mountain Water Park.
The coaster is far enough up the mountain that you can get a bird's eye view of Camelbeach and the adventure ropes course next door.
The highest point of the mountain coaster is 38 feet above the ground.
"I test rode it. It's going to be pretty scary. I was only on one section, it's going to be a lot of fun, you'll definitely be screaming and be hoarse the next day," said McHugh.
The Wong family from New Jersey is vacationing in the Poconos for a week. They have been eying up the mountain coaster construction. The family, some who are thrill seekers, are looking forward to visiting again and going for a ride.
"I think I'll like it. I think I'll like it because I love speed," said Andrew Wong.
"I like to go on roller coasters," said Victoria Wong, "You get to scream and you get to have fun."
"Sounds like fun, but don't know if I'm going to do it," said Anna Wong.
Camelback officials said the ride is expected to open at the end of this month.
