BRODHEADSVILLE, Pa. — A New Jersey woman died Saturday night following a collision with a utility pole in Monroe County, state police said.
The 47-year-old woman was identified as Rebecca Martin, of Phillipsburg. Martin, a passenger in the car, crashed just before 11 p.m. on state Route in Chestnuthill Township.
State police said they believe the driver was under the influence and driving fast when the car veered off the road and struck a large pole just south of Pleasant Valley Lane. The driver's name has not been released.
Martin was not wearing a seatbelt.
Troopers from the Fern Ridge barracks are investigating. The West End Fire Company, Leigh Valley EMS and the Monroe County's Coroner's Office assisted.
An autopsy is scheduled Tuesday.
Note: An earlier version of this story incorrectly identified Martin as the driver. In fact, she was the passenger.
