Two Monroe County brothers plea guilty to Jan. 6 charges

Matthew and Andrew Valentin of Stroudsburg pleaded guilty to felony counts of assaulting, resisting, or impeding certain officers.

MONROE COUNTY, Pa. — Two brothers from Monroe County pleaded guilty to felony charges stemming from their actions during the January 6 breach of the U.S. Capitol. 

Matthew Valentin, 31, and Andrew Valentin, 26, of Stroudsburg, pleaded guilty to charges of assaulting, resisting, or impeding certain officers.

Investigators say the brothers pushed a metal barricade into capitol police officers. According to court documents, the brothers were identified in an open-source video on Jan. 6, 2021. They were seen walking from the Washington Monument along Constitution Avenue towards the U.S. Capitol building. 

The brothers went to the West Plaza of the Capitol grounds and climbed a media tower there.

Sentencing will take place on January 17 in federal court.
