MOUNT POCONO, Pa. — A Monroe County man is locked up on charges he slashed someone in Mount Pocono late Tuesday.
Pocono Mountain Regional Police arrested Tyrone Witherspoon, 37, on charges of aggravated assault after the 10:27 p.m. emergency call, according to a criminal complaint.
Witherspoon, of Tobyhanna, slashed a man's face outside a Wawa on state Route 940 in Mount Pocono, police said.
The victim, identified in charging documents as Terrell Terry, was rushed to a local hospital, where staff used medical glue to close a 4-inch slice on his face.
Police Chief Chris Wagner said Wednesday he believes the victim has since been released from the hospital.
Officers caught up with Witherspoon by stopping a car 1½ miles from the scene that matched a witness’s description of the assailant’s vehicle, according to the complaint. They noted fresh blood on the passenger door panel and handle.
Investigators used witness statements and surveillance footage from the Wawa to identify Witherspoon as Terry’s attacker, according to the complaint.
Neither Terry nor Witherspoon would speak with the police.
Witherspoon is jailed at the Monroe County Correctional Facility in lieu of $50,000 bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled March 28.
