Chester County couple charged with murder following death of 12-year-old girl

Rendell Hoagland and Cindy Warren, formerly of Monroe County, face charges after the death of Malinda Hoagland.

CHESTER COUNTY, Pa. —  The father and stepmother of a 12-year-old girl who died after she was allegedly tortured and starved in Chester County have now been charged with murder.

Malinda Hoagland weighed just 50 pounds at the time of her death in May.

According to the District Attorney, she died following years of abuse at the hands of her biological father, Rendell Hoagland, and his girlfriend, Cindy Warren.

Investigators say she was chained to furniture, forced to run in place, do pushups for hours and beaten, and it was all on camera.

Her autopsy results show that she died of starvation and blunt force trauma.

"I can stand here before you today and say that we intend to pursue the death penalty in this case." said Chester County District Attorney Christopher de Barrena-Sarobe.

The stepmother, Cindy Warren was previously convicted of child endangerment charges in Monroe County for the abuse of her three-year-old son in 2007.
