Voters brave long lines in the Poconos

Some voters waited hours to cast their ballot in parts of the Poconos.

MONROE COUNTY, Pa. — The line to vote at the Ross Township Municipal Building near Saylorsburg stretched down the parking lot. With a line like this and hundreds of voters comes a wait.

"Two hours and 25 minutes, I set a timer! " said Vanessa Gudzinas of Saylorsburg.

Some people came prepared with chairs to wait their turn.

"Four years ago we were able to just walk right in so I really didn't know what to expect Covid was a big effect in the last election a lot of people mailed in ballots but I am glad everyone is here in person," said Jennifer Bentley of Ross Township.

At the northern part of Monroe County in Tobyhanna, it was a similar sight.  Voters lined the sidewalk outside of The Mountain Center.

"It's actually my first year voting, first time registration I guess it is about time looking for change and hopefully these next four years bring peace," said Karrie Faiella of Tobyhanna.

Even with big state races on the ballot like senate and representatives, voters say the main reason they came out was for the presidential pick.

"It's important for everyone to vote. It's your time to do your due diligence and elect who you wish to be president," said Gudzinas.

"Voters say since the presidential race only rolls around every four years, they want to make sure their voices are heard.

"We wanted to vote to make sure we did our part to make sure the right person win,s just doing our part as Americans to vote and change as much as we can," said Bianca and Jamar Connor.

"We're making a difference in the world. We need big change and good things to happen, and the only way to make it happen is to vote," said Bentley.

Polls are open until 8 p.m.
