EAST STROUDSBURG -- As the summer starts to heat up, kids in Monroe County now have a place to stay cool.
Some ran, though lifeguards prefer walking, to the Dansbury Park pool summer opening in East Stroudsburg.
"I waited a long time for this to open," said Dimitri Merkman of East Stroudsburg.
Councilman Maury Molin says the pool opening was delayed due to budget and safety concerns.
"There was a lot of issues. There was a leak, and then it was also decided it would be a 10-week season," says Councilman Molin, "We decided it would be a 10-week season. We looked as council for the 10-week season and we took it from Memorial Day and that would've taken us to the first week of August."
The East Stroudsburg official says council decided to have the pool season end closer to the opening of school.
The Barbo family was the very first people in line for the pool. They have been coming to the Dansbury pool for as long as they can remember. This year's pool opening was extra special to them for two reasons.
"The yellow slide and daddy coming in the pool with us," says Evan Barbo.
The Dansbury pool comes complete with five slides, sprinklers, a swimming lap area and fountains. This is perfect for swimmers and those just coming to relax.
