MONROE COUNTY -- Hundreds of athletes are hitting the Poconos this weekend to give it their best 'Tri.'

The Revolution 3 Triathlon kicks off early Sunday morning.

The tents are almost all set, transition areas are being assembled, and the Revolution 3 Triathlon is getting ready to roll through the Poconos.

"It's a huge accomplishment, not only for us and our team, but also for the athletes who are coming out here who have just spent months and months to train, prepare for this," said Race Director Eric Opdyke.

More than 500 athletes from all around the world will be taking on either an Olympic or Half-Ironman Triathlon, swimming up to 1.2 miles, biking a max of 56 miles and running up to a half marathon.

Organizers say having the Pocono Mountains as a backdrop will be a treat.

"It's beautiful. It's absolutely amazing, so I think the athletes are going to show up who aren't used to this area and are just going to be really blown away by its beauty," said Opdyke.

It's also a treat for local businesses, including the Shawnee Inn, where the finish line sits for both the bike and run portions.

General Manager Rob Howell said there are many benefits to this race.

"People coming in, spending money in restaurants, not everybody can stay here, staying all over the Pocono Mountains or at least in this area," said Howell.

Community Drive and River Road will be closed to traffic for this weekend's triathlon, but drivers will have to share part of Route 209 with the athletes, so organizers are asking everyone who travels that stretch of road to be alert.

"There will be lots of signage, warning the motorists that there's a race going on. We've done a lot of public service announcements to let them know what times we'll be on the roads," said Opdyke.

The race will begin Sunday at 7 a.m. at Tamiment Lake, and then runs through the Delaware Water Gap National Recreational Area.

Of course spectators are encouraged to stop by and give this race a 'Tri' for themselves.
