State, local leaders come together at housing summit in Monroe County

More than 300 members of the community and local government came together for the summit at Kalahari Resort.

MONROE COUNTY, Pa. — More than 300 state and local leaders joined residents for a housing summit Wednesday at Kalahari Resort in Monroe County.

Leaders say the national housing crisis is felt across northeastern and central Pennsylvania, especially in the Poconos region, which has housing needs that are different from those of other parts of the state.

"It is interconnected with our health care academia, employment, the economy, so we want to make sure everyone recognizes that everything is connected to this critical topic and that it requires elected officials, employers, and non-profits to be all involved in the solution as well," said Michael Tukeva, Pocono Mountains United Way CEO.

Governor Shapiro signed an executive order in September instructing the Department of Community and Economic Development to identify, review, and assess the effectiveness of housing programs and resources offered by state agencies.
