MONROE COUNTY, Pa. — The driver of a tractor trailer faces numerous charges following a 2023 crash that killed three people in Monroe County.
According to court documents, 36-year-old Mark Rideout of Philadelphia was driving a tractor trailer under the influence on the day of the crash, March 1st, 2023.
Officials say Rideout was driving on Route 33 in Hamilton Township near Saylorsburg around 10:30am when he crossed over the median and then drove into oncoming traffic, leading to a multi-vehicle crash.
The crash killed a mother and daughter from Wilkes-Barre. 40-year-old Samantha Crich was driving a vehicle, and her daughter, 14-year-old Elizabeth Perkins, was her passenger.
The third victim was Byran Franco, a 25-year-old from Reading, who was a driver in a separate vehicle.
Court documents say Rideout was under the influence of drugs at the time of the crash.
Rideout has been charged with homicide by vehicle while DUI, homicide by vehicle, driving under the influence, and related charges.
He was arraigned Wednesday and remains in custody at the Monroe County Prison, bail was denied. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for later this month.
