Friday the 13th in the Poconos

Newswatch 16's Emily Kress stopped by a tattoo shop in Monroe County that cranks out special ink for the occasion.

MONROE COUNTY, Pa. — Pages and pages of Friday the 13th tattoo designs are laid out on the counter at Rock'n Willy's Tattoo and Piercing in Stroud Township.

"Most of the time with a plan, but sometimes I just let everything speak to me," said Madison Diaz of Cresco.

When Friday the 13th appears on the calendar, the tattoo shop hosts a flash sale for piercings and tattoos, and people flock in to get some new ink.

"I pulled up today at 9 a.m., and we already had 17 or 18 people waiting, and we didn't even open the doors yet," said owner Anthony Paternoster.

"It's kind of a tradition in the shop to have these events for Friday the 13th," added Tattoo artist Led Perez.

Perez says people will be in and out of his chair all day, and the people itching for new tattoos say there's no better time than on the most superstitious day of the year.

"I just always come on Friday the 13th to Rock'N Willy's to get tattoos. I want to say three or four on my sleeve are just Friday the 13th flash," explained Diaz.

"This is my first time getting a Friday the 13th special tattoos, I decided I was going to come down and get tatted. I'm getting a spider and a reaper," said Carlie Margretta of Scott Run.

Artists say some of the most popular tattoos for the flash event are flies, pumpkins, and other spooky things.

"Well, aside from the number 13, I think ghosts, but it can vary, you know," said Perez.

"I think it's because of Halloween, so Friday the 13th is the closest thing," said Paternoster.

If you missed out on this Friday the 13th, another one will be held later this year in December.
