Elements Music Festival returns to the Poconos

More than 18,000 music lovers are expected to show up for Elements. Newswatch 16's Emily Kress shows us how organizers are preparing to deal with the weather.

Campers make their way to Pocono Raceway near Long Pond but it's not for NASCAR.

The Elements Music and Art Festival is back for another year. The four-day event is expected to draw more than 18,000  music lovers

"We have 4 main stages that have different genres of music from electronic, house, bass, jam categories and when you walk into the festival it's a completely immersive experience.  We want you to be transported to another world," described Elements co-founder Brett Herman.

The stages are set and ready for performers. One of the stages is designed to look like an Octopus, known as the water stage.

With some rain expected during the festival organizers say they are ready.

"We have been working through the night to make sure the site is draining properly, that there is no standing water, our power infrastructure is solid we are ready, we are ready for the storm," said Herman.

For extra security, Pocono Mountain Regional Police Chief Chris Wagner says officers will be at the festival.

"We want people to come enjoy have a good time and see what the Poconos has to offer. It does attract a large amount of drug use, so we caution we take it seriously," said Chief Wagner.

Unlike the festival goers, some people who live nearby aren't thrilled about the festival. Jennifer Iannaco lives in the Sierra View Community not far from the raceway.

"It's almost like a vibration in my house. My bedroom faces like the direction of the racetrack but it was also a feeling that you could feel and the fact that it was constant for so many hours of course it's quite an annoyance," said Jennifer Iannaco of Tunkhannock Township.

Tunkhannock Township officials say festival organizers applied for and were granted a variance to allow performers to play music past normal hours.

The Elements Music Festival runs through Sunday.
