Elementary students in Monroe County salute our veterans

Newswatch 16's Emily Kress shows us the celebration of our nation's heroes at Pleasant Valley Elementary.

MONROE COUNTY, Pa. — A patriotic parade passed through the halls of Pleasant Valley Elementary School in Polk Township just days ahead of veterans day.

"Thank you for your service, thank you for being here!"

"Basically it's a day that you care about veterans, they save us and they fight for us," said PVE student Chris Weiss.

Nearly 900 students held their American flags with pride – as their classmates were joined by the veterans in their lives.

The teachers who organize the parade say this year, 75 community members took part.

"We are just super proud and we understand the sacrifice these people make for our families," said 2nd grade teacher Joan Bumbulsky.

The parade then made its way to the gym, where each class from kindergarten to second grade sang special songs to their hometown heroes.

"It absolutely sent chills up my spine how much these kids appreciate what we do its huge and it is very emotional for me seeing all of these kids," said James Weiss a member of the Navy Reserves.

"It makes me proud and makes me feel very good, it was moving to say the least," said Air Force Veteran Peter Picardi.

For the service men and women this is not only a celebration of their service, but a reminder these kids are the future of this country.

"I think a percentage of these kids are going to end up being Americas war fighters in the future, and this is an opportunity for them to see what it is all about and seeing what guys look like who have done that for their country," said Weiss.

The hundreds of students can't say thank you enough, to our veterans.
