MONROE COUNTY, Pa. — A not so welcomed sight for drivers making a pit stop in Pennsylvania.
A big sign has been placed at the entrance of the Delaware Water Gap Welcome Center on Interstate 80 alerting people the building is closed.
"It was a shocker, I was here yesterday and no one made me aware of it. One more thing, I have to use the bathroom man, I drank a lot of coffee I thought I was going to use the bathroom here. Now, no bathroom," said Leo Arnoux of Stroudsburg.
PennDOT officials say there is damage to the inside of the building, but wouldn't say exactly what happened.
We found drivers making U-turns after seeing the signs. This is not an ideal situation for truck drivers who travel this road several times a week.
"It's very nice to have these places, and when they are shut down, it's an inconvenience to all travelers," said Charles Bush of Clearfield County.
"I'm going to touch my truck grease because I need to pre-trip my truck and I like to wash my hands because I'm going to be driving and smelling like grease," said Arnoux.
Drivers say they hope they're not greeted by this sign for too long while PennDOT crews make repairs.
"I will definitely not pull into this parking lot until I see that it is fully operable. It's no worse than road construction; sometimes, you have a little detour," said Bush.
"I don't know what I can do about it, but it's definitely a bad situation for me," said Arnoux.
PennDOT officials say crews are evaluating the damage and are working to create a repair plan.
The DWG Welcome Center will remain closed until further notice.
