STROUDSBURG -- The trial of a man accused of killing his wife 14 years ago in Monroe County resumed Monday, but it’s what happened outside the courtroom that is getting attention.
Edward Yale is on trial for allegedly murdering his wife Joan back in 2011. We learned in court Monday that Yale tried to kill himself Sunday while locked up in Monroe County.
Prosecutors said a corrections officer found Yale in his jail cell around noon Sunday. He had taken the elastic out of his long johns and tried to tighten it around his neck at the Monroe County Correctional Facility.
The District Attorney’s office had a nurse and guard testify about the incident and the jury now has this information as they continue to listen to testimony.
Officials tell us Yale is now on suicide watch at the jail in Monroe County.
Yale’s attorney declined to comment on the incident. Yale was expected to take the stand in his own defense sometime during his murder trial that could still happen sometime this week.
