STROUDSBURG, Pa. — Furry four-legged friends in need of care are always welcome inside Pocono Peak Veterinary Center near Stroudsburg.
But this Saturday, when the center is usually closed, Dr. Christine Coyle and several others will donate their time to help even more.
This weekend, the veterinarian is hosting a clinic to help reduce the stray and feral cat population in Monroe County.
"Cats are very good at reproducing, and we do our best to try to limit that in the community, you know, all the kittens that are born every year, unwanted kittens that are out in the world. There are only so many homes for these guys, so helping to reduce that population," said Dr. Coyle.
It's the fifth time Pocono Peak is hosting the Catsnip Clinic.
Money raised from the low-cost spay and neuter clinic goes to help Camp Papillon Animal Shelter near Syndersville.
Camp Papillion Board member Felicia Katz says the clinic sold out in an hour and a half. which she believes shows the need for help in the county.
"We get sickness in our cottage that prevents us from taking in more cats and kittens, and it's a real problem, and this event, it's not going to solve the problem, but it's going to help cut down," said Katz.
"We have about 135 cats signed up right now, males and females. We do a little bit more males because they're quicker to do," said Dr. Coyle.
Dr. Coyle explained that events like Catsnip Clinic can greatly reduce the feral cat population.
Money raised will help Camp Papillion pay its veterinary bills.
