STROUDSBURG, Pa. — Covered in a blanket of snow, the Ann Street Christmas display in Stroudsburg is back.
"Oh, it adds a little extra magic to it," said Cindy Newport of Stroudsburg.
"We just missed last year, so due to logistics, manpower, and certain things going on with some guys personally, we just couldn't do it. So we made a commitment last year to do it this year," said David Schlorholtz, co-chair of the Christmas display with the Stroudsburg Fire Department.
The Stroudsburg Fire Department came through on that commitment.
Each intricate part of the old-time Christmas attraction came from the Urban family, who started the display at their home back in the 1950s.
The fire department and members of the Moose Lodge spent the weekend putting the display up piece by piece.
"We start on a Friday night with the main buildings, on Saturday we start putting up the figurines and the outbuildings, then on Sunday we spend time wiring it up and putting the fence up and things like that,"
The real holiday magic comes at 6 p.m. every night when the display lights up.
"It was sad last year when they weren't here. They needed some renovations and so forth on everything, so it is nice that it is back this year," said Newport.
For many people in the area, the Ann Street Christmas display brings back generations of holiday memories.
"When I was young, and this was located in Berwick Heights, my family, my brother, and my parents went up every year, usually on Christmas Eve before midnight mass, then went to my uncle's house," described Newport.
"I've been a firefighter for 50 years and I've been involved in this for 40, I have generations of people say I remember this and now I bring my kids I bring my grand kids, it's great," said Schlorholtz.
The display will be up through December 28th at Ann Street Park in Stroudsburg. Lights will be on from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. each night.
