A look at Monroe County on Election Day

Voters in the Poconos will soon head to the polls to cast their ballots in a number of races, from statewide judges to local borough councils.

MONROE COUNTY, Pa. — One of Monroe County's biggest races will look to fill the position of district attorney.

This comes after David Christine announced he would be stepping down after 24 years.

Longtime Monroe County Assistant District Attorney Mike Mancuso is the Democratic nominee taking on Republican Alexander Marek, who serves as a  Deputy District Attorney in Northampton County.

Another potentially big race will look to fill all three county commissioners' seats.

Democrats John Christy and Sharon Laverdure are the incumbents this year, both fighting for another term.

Republicans David Parker and Christine Wilkins, both of whom have a background in local politics, are looking to form a new GOP majority.

According to the county's office of elections, so far, more than 9,000 of the 13,390 mail-in Ballots sent out have been returned.

Due to it being an off-season election, the office expects only 19 percent of eligible voters to visit the polls; one of them being Joe Carr of East Stroudsburg.

"Don't wait till they get real big; you want to vote while you can now because these little seats mean a lot," said Joe Carr, East Stroudsburg.

Carr is a registered Democrat. He says no matter what your political affiliation or how big the race is, it's your duty to get out and vote, "If you don't vote and you complain about stuff that's your own fault, but if you vote at least you know that you voted for something."

Polling sites across Monroe County and all of Pennsylvania will be open on Election Day from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
