LEBANON COUNTY, Pa. — A Monroe County man died in a four-vehicle crash early Thursday morning near Harrisburg.
According to state police, the crash occurred on I-81 northbound, near mile marker 84.8 in East Hanover Township.
The incident began when a tractor-trailer rear-ended another tractor-trailer in the right lane, causing the first truck to jackknife.
27-year-old James Stokes of Cresco was a passenger in an SUV traveling behind the second tractor-trailer. The SUV struck the rear end of the second truck, forcing it into the left lane. Once in the left lane, the SUV was hit by a Hyundai, which caught fire as a result of the collision.
Stokes was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the SUV and the driver of the second tractor-trailer were both transported to the hospital for injuries. Their conditions have not been released.
The drivers of the first tractor-trailer and the Hyundai were not injured.
