LOYALSOCK TOWNSHIP, PA — A child care provider in Lycoming County is accused of abusing a toddler in her care.

Erin Moon, 44, of Loyalsock Township, was arraigned Monday and charged with aggravated assault and endangering the welfare of children.

State police said the child's parents found the boy had a significant injury on the right side of his face, including a large visible red mark with clear, distinct finger impressions, when he was picked up at Moon's residence last month.

Moon provides day care for the 15 month old, and supervises five small children. Investigators said she was the only adult in the home.

The parents took the child for treatment to a pediatric trauma specialist at Geisinger Children's Advocacy Center. A specialist said the mark was consistent with a child abused by an adult hand.

Moon was interviewed and denied assaulting the 15 month old, saying that the child fell on a toy, which caused him to injure his face.

Moon is locked up with bail set at $25,000.
