Hundreds of free meals handed out in Williamsport

The American Rescue Workers provide 400 Thanksgiving meals to the Williamsport community.

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — Dozens of cars lined up on Elmira Street in Williamsport this morning. Folks stopped by the American Rescue Workers to pick up their free Thanksgiving meal.

"I look forward to the turkey and stuffing, gravy and everything. We also get to spend time with family," said Connie Lyons.

The organization has provided the holiday meal for many years. This year they handed out nearly 400 meals. People told us what their favorite part of Thanksgiving dish is.

"All the trimmings and stuff. Mashed potatoes, gravy, cranberry sauce and all that," said Nancy Rhoades.

"The mashed potatoes and gravy," stated Terry Rhoades.

The meal distribution would not be possible without the help of volunteers. Giovanna Daniele has been hard at work all morning.

"I am bagging rolls, cutting pies and volunteering to make Thanksgiving dinner," said Daniele.

She says volunteering is a great way to give back during the holiday season.

"I don't cook for my own family, my mom does that, so, I figured I come volunteer for a while and make some meals. Everyone deserves a Thanksgiving dinner," she added.

In addition to the Thanksgiving meals, everyone went home with a slice of pie and a drink.
