Williamsport home foundation collapses from Tropical Storm Debby

The foundation of the place in Williamsport collapsed after heavy rain fall from the storm.

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — Mandy Herald from Williamsport says she received a phone call at work on Friday morning from her husband, saying there was a catastrophe at their home. When she arrived, she says she was in total shock by what she saw.

"Came home to find that the whole basement wall had collapsed, and our upstairs, which is like the kitchen and upstairs bathroom, were starting to sag, so we were just quickly trying to find people who could come help us to support the wall."

Herald left her home in West Hills Estates in Williamsport on Friday. She didn't think she had anything to worry about, but the remnants of Tropical Storm Debby had other plans.

Herald says her foundation wall collapsed due to too much groundwater. Now, her home is condemned and everything that was in her basement is destroyed. A contractor came by on Sunday to put beams in the basement to support the house.

Herald says she and her husband are in complete shock at the damage, but they are doing what they can to move forward.

"We will get $5,000 for the contents of the basement but that's all as far as what help we'll get from insurance so we have retirement money and things saved that we'll use to get the house fixed."

The Heralds just recently renovated their whole house, but they never expected to replace their foundation.

"We knocked out a wall to make a big eating kitchen that was beautiful like it's the—my favorite place of our whole house put hardwood throughout the house, new carpet, painted everything upstairs, re-did a bathroom, we have the house exactly how we want it to be for ourselves," said Herald.

The Heralds say they are currently on a waiting list to see if the Lycoming County Commissioners can provide any help with the damage from Tropical Storm Debby.
