LOWER MERION TOWNSHIP -- 25 years ago, a plane crash killed John Heinz, a U.S. senator from Pennsylvania, and six others.
The charter jet carrying Heinz collided with a helicopter north of Philadelphia on April 4, 1991.
The debris slammed into a schoolyard killing two first graders on the ground.
The chopper was sent up to check out a problem with the plane's landing gear.
The pilot of the chopper died, as did the pilot of the plane, who was from Hughesville, and its co-pilot, who was from Montoursville.
The last place Senator Heinz visited that day was Lycoming County. His plane took off from the Williamsport Regional Airport.
