U.S. Senator Casey responds to democrat leaders' concerns on United States President Joe Biden's re-election

Newswatch 16's Mackenzie Aucker caught up with Senator Bob Casey in Lycoming County.

JERSEY SHORE, Pa. — "And I think those concerns are concerns that I need to take in and consider. I think my position's been very clear, and I think—I think the president will do what he's always done, which is put the best interest of the country, first," said U.S. Senator Bob Casey.

Speaking at an event in Jersey Shore, Senator Bob Casey responded to questions about Joe Biden's fitness for a possible second term as president. According to ABC News, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer has joined a growing number of Democrats urging Biden to leave the race.

"I guess I'm not going to comment on about what others are saying; they can make their own statements," said Senator Casey.

The Democrat from Scranton also talked about the assassination attempt on former President Trump that happened this past Saturday at a campaign rally in Western PA. Casey called what happened a horrific moment for the Commonwealth and the country.

"Thank god the president is okay, but we lost a Pennsylvanian who was literally protecting his own family and gave his life for his own family; we have two Pennsylvanians who are still wounded and hospitalized," said Senator Casey.

Casey also expressed his concerns about the security provided by the Secret Service that day.

"I don't think anyone has to be a law enforcement professional to ask very pointed questions and demand answers to why someone with a weapon of any kind, but especially a powerful weapon like an AR-15, is able to lay on a rooftop and have that line of sight, to shoot at the president or anyone else," said Senator Casey.

Casey stopped short of joining calls for the director of the Secret Service to step down. He said he wants to wait until congressional investigations are complete.
