WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — One man is in custody after a stabbing in Williamsport Friday morning.
A man and a woman were stabbed around 9 a.m. on West Third Street outside the Trade and Transit Center, according to Williamsport police.
Police captured Timothy Maddox, 35, nearby shortly after the stabbings. Maddox admitted to police that he confronted the male victim and stabbed him. He then stabbed the female victim when she tried to intervene.
Witnesses told Newswatch 16 what they saw.
“We were running across the road to see what was going on. We saw the lady bus driver on top of a woman with a coat over her because she was stabbed. The other guy was sitting on the bench that was also stabbed," Susan Beckett said.
“I ran over and said, 'Hey, stand against the wall.' And he pulled the knife out, and I pulled my mace out and maced him," Henry Beck said. "He took off and ran down behind the courthouse, and that’s when the cops and sheriffs came,"
Both victims were taken to a hospital. Their current condition and identities have not been released.
Maddox is charged with attempted homicide, aggravated assault, and several other charges.
Bail was denied, and Maddox was locked up in Lycoming County.
