JERSEY SHORE -- More than 20 homes in Jersey Shore in need of some TLC are getting repaired for free this week.
A group of church members in Lycoming County are helping beautify their community.
Volunteers painted, cleared brush, and had some fun while repairing a home in Jersey Shore.
"The first day was Monday and we had to cut down a bunch of brush and drag and there was a bunch of poison ivy we had to avoid. that was pretty rough but we got over it," said volunteer Jessica Fink.
High school student Jessica Fink and other volunteers are part of Transform Jersey Shore. It's a weeklong event run completely on donations.
"All the local churches in the area got together and we're hoping to help people in need by helping fix up their homes when they can't do it," said volunteer Mark Fink.
About 80 volunteers, mostly from around Jersey Shore, are repairing over 20 homes in the area.
At the beginning of the week, one home was hidden behind overgrown bushes.
But now, "we fixed repairs that are done and cleaned all the gutters and scrapped and painted the house."
The work these volunteers have put into this project would have cost the homeowner hundreds. She says it's a job she would not have been able to do on her own.
"I really can't express what it means to you know have help," said homeowner Lucinda Coup.
For Coup, these volunteers repaired more than her home; they repaired her hope in finding the good in people
"She actually made us brownies last night and she brought them out for us this morning and she was like, 'here, I made you guys some brownies,' and we were like, 'thank you!'
"It's a very humbling experience because it makes you aware of the fact that God is still there; he still cares," said Coup.
"We're trying to transform Jersey Shore into something better and they are like, 'thank you!' It just touches your heart and makes it all worth it."
With help from the community, volunteers hope to continue to transform Jersey Shore next year.
