MONTOURSVILLE -- Police in Lycoming County are investigating the shooting of a toddler.
State and local police in Montoursville say a 2 year old got his mother's boyfriend's gun and ended up shooting himself in the leg Thursday afternoon.
Montoursville police say the 2 year old was downstairs in the house on Broad Street while the child's mother and her boyfriend were upstairs in the bathroom. The toddler made his way upstairs into his mother's bedroom where the boyfriend's loaded gun was left out.
Police say the child got that gun and started playing around with it and shot himself in the leg.
We spoke with people who were next door when the paramedics arrived
"Cop came in, pulled out a little kid, his pants were down, couldn't tell what was wrong at all, couldn't see blood at all. Knew something was wrong because the kids was completely limp," said neighbor Joshua Plocinski.
The child was taken to a nearby hospital and is in stable condition. Police say the toddler will be transported to Geisinger Medical Center near Danville for treatment.
Police have not said if any charges will be filed against the parents.
