WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — The cold weather is here. Most of Northeastern and Central Pennsylvania already seeing snowfall. A reminder of what's to come this winter.
As temperatures drop, garages like the Kost Tire and Auto in Williamsport see an increase in business that involves going under the hood.
"Batteries, obviously, and not letting batteries sit over a long period of time outside, you know, out in the cold cause that's what destroys a lot of batteries," said Scott Shaffer, Kost Tires and Auto Williamsport store manager.
Getting the right kind of antifreeze is important, especially during the winter.
"Washer fluid getting a something that's -20 or below, not necessarily a bug washer fluid that people use in the summer, that'll actually freeze much quicker," said Shaffer.
Scott Shaffer is the store manager at Kost Tire and Auto Center in Williamsport. He says the biggest concern for customers during the cooler months is tire pressure.
"Tire pressure monitoring system light comes on and scares a lot of people; that's kind of normal because when the temperature freezes, you have less pressure in the tire, so we have to fill those up," said Shaffer.
The most important thing you can do to prepare for winter is to get your car serviced.
"And have us check take it to a reputable shop and have them go over it, we can check all of the fluids for you, check your car fax reports, make sure everything is up to date for you," said Shaffer.
Shaffer says doing this simple maintenance is key to avoiding big problems in the future.
