Excitement is building for the start of the 153rd Lycoming County Fair

Newswatch 16's Mackenzie Aucker stopped by the fairgrounds in Hughesville to find out how vendors are keeping cool and getting ready.

HUGHESVILLE, Pa. — Vendors were setting up on Wednesday for the 153rd Lycoming County Fair in Hughesville. The ten-day fair will be packed with rides, animals, and events for the whole family.

"We have dog shows; we have a magician; we have pig races and a circus. So there's a lot of free entertainment over there. There's also a petting zoo, so the kids have a great time," said Rocky Reed, the Lycoming County Fair president.

There are some new additions this year, such as the return of the rodeo, the Hughesville High School theater club, and the Robert and Mary Ann Heydenreich cooling station.

"It also serves as a museum; a lot of artifacts are here from previous fairs. And it is supposed to be warm, but it's summertime, and that's exactly how summer should be, so we're looking forward to having a great fair no matter what the weather is," Reed said.

But the cooling station isn't the only way to beat the heat

"We sell coffee, tea, refreshers, all things beverage to keep you cool on hot days like today," said Mariah Wagner, owner of Buck N' Bean Coffee Co.

Kids in the Pioneer Valley 4-H Club are getting their cows ready for the fair and making sure the animals don't overheat.

"We run a lot of fans in here," said 4-H member Harley Fry. "The fair will let us take the milk cows home after the shows which is nice because it's really a lot of stress on the milk cows who are producing milk."

The Lycoming County Fair runs until Saturday, July 20. Gates open at 4 p.m. on the weekdays and 10 a.m. on the weekends. General admission is $4. Kids 12 and under are free.
