Taking a stroll down Candy Cane Lane

A decades-long neighborhood Christmas display is spreading cheer to hundreds in Duboistown.

DUBOISTOWN, Pa. — Hundreds of cars drove along Candy Cane Lane in Duboistown Friday night, filled with people taking in the sights and sounds of the holiday season.

"What makes it so special for Santa Claus to come here is the lights and seeing the little children's faces light up when they see myself or my wife, Mrs. Claus," said Santa Claus.

Along with some help from Jolly Old Saint Nick, the families that transform Summer Street into a drive-through Christmas display have been doing this for 66 years.

"It's nice for the kids, and families love it. It's been since 1957," said Bette McCormick, a homeowner in the area.

McCormick says the displays become bigger and better since she and her family moved back in 2002.

Taking over the tradition that was started by the homeowners before them.

"It's been a little crazy, but it's great. It's fun. My husband does all of this. It's a lot of work, everybody chips in," McCormick added.

The decades-long tradition for families that live on Candy Cane Lane has also become a destination for families outside of the area.

"I mean look at it, look at all the lights; it's fun, and we just come every 22nd of December," said Tara Tressler from Loganton.

For 43 years, Tara Tressler and her extended family have made the 45-minute trek to the display that they say changes every year.

"When we first started, it stopped right here. But now it goes the whole way up to the top of the street, so it's really awesome," Tressler added.

"No one in Loganton does this, so we have to come here to see it, and everyone who lives on the street obviously gets involved," said Sadie Kerstetter from Loganton.

Homeowners say they plan to keep the tradition for years to come.
