WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — From now until fall, motorcoach tours will be rolling into Williamsport to check out some popular tourist spots, like the Thomas T. Taber Museum and the Rowley House Museum.
"Hiawatha, and then a couple other of our gems like the World of Little League, ReptilLand—this year so far, we've had groups from the Carolinas, Delaware, New Jersey, New York, all over. Tours are typically two to three days," said Gina Edwards, tourism and group tour director for the Lycoming County Visitors Bureau.
Edwards says there are more than 50 bookings so far. She expects to get even more as we head into the summer.
"This year, you know, groups are a little smaller. They're anywhere from 30 to 40, so it's not a full 50-passenger motorcoach, but it's still pretty big, average. We get a lot of senior groups. We do have an antique car club coming, so it's all kinds of groups."
One of the popular motorcoach tours showcases the history of Millionaires Row in Williamsport's Historic District. Tourists also get a chance to visit the Rowley House Museum.
"It was one of the millionaire's homes, and it's been refurbished with a lot of locally donated antiques, and there was so much money here for a period of about 50 years that a lot of people have heirloom antiques," said Susan Kelly, Millionaire's Row tour guide.
The motor coach tours bring in more than 2,000 people per year, which helps boost the local economy.
"They do stay in Williamsport at any of our hotels. They get to enjoy our downtown, all of our sites, different events, so it's a good time," said Edwards.
