WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — The National Weather Service confirms that one person was injured as storms moved through our area on Thursday.
The storm that made its way through Lycoming County Thursday night ravaged Lairdsville.
According to the National Weather Service, 80 to 90 mile per hour winds ripped through the small community.
"It was horrible," Preston Hill said. "All you heard was thuds and glass shatter."
"Lots of rain like really fast and really abruptly," Caroline Hicks said. "It just started coming down."
Some in the area were still without power Friday afternoon. The Lairdsville Butcher shop is using a generator to keep meat frozen. The shop lost its roof in the storm.
"Taking some meat out of the smoker when the roof went off and it just created a vacuum," Carl Farley said.
Just outside of Lairdsville is a barn that was destroyed. Owners spent the day clearing rubble off tractors and other equipment.
"We had a tornado or wind storm come through and it wiped out our two machinery sheds," Jim Temple said
People from all over the county stopped by the Lairdsville area to help.
"We were supposed to do remote learning today, but we decided to come down here today to help clean up," Tori Morgan said.
"In this community, we pull together. A lot of the farmers from around here came in this morning to help."
Doug Millheim, the owner of D.A.M. Containers, a business that manufactures dumpsters, also brought employees and trucks.
"This town treats me right. I mean, my boys have a garage here and a bar here and friends and family live here and everyone gets along," Millheim said. "Everybody helps everybody."
A strong gust of wind knocked down a light at Flanigan Park in Williamsport.
The light landed on top of a fence. The scoreboard attached to the fence was also knocked over.
The group that runs the park says the playground and basketball courts will remain closed until repairs can be made here in Williamsport.
