Memorial Day observance in Lycoming County

A borough in Lycoming County didn't let the weather rain on their parade today. The community still came out to honor and remember our veterans.

MUNCY, Pa. — Dozens of people lined East Mechanic Street in Muncy for the borough's annual Memorial Day parade. This is the third year for the parade, following a break during the pandemic. When Bill Scott joined the Muncy borough council, he wanted to bring back the show of support for the fallen.

"And it's been very successful, it's getting bigger every year, even this year I think we have horses back there that even turned out in this weather and we're hoping to get lucky here and it's even bigger yet," said Bill Scott, Muncy Memorial Day Parade Coordinator.

The parade featured emergency responders, Boy Scouts, and, most importantly, veterans.

"There's a lot of tradition here, Muncy Little League; they're in the parade, the legion team—they've marched every year for probably about 50 years. That's a tradition because it is the Muncy American Legion Parade, so it's a tradition that specific team marches in the parade and they're here, boy scouts are here, they drag the cannon over there, that's a tradition, said Scott.

For folks like Craig Lloyd, honoring our fallen service members is a Memorial Day tradition, rain or shine.

"We try to dedicate our time to come to see this parade to see all of the military people honor the veterans for today, and we always stand in this beautiful corner in Muncy, and the weather's gonna hold off, and it's gonna be a great parade, said Craig Lloyd of Muncy.

"We come out to honor those who have fallen. My father was in the Second World War, and we have a history of people in the military; our granddaughter just graduated from the Coast Guard Academy, and so we feel just as though it's part of our life to be thankful," said Linda Moyer of Muncy.

After the parade, a Memorial Day service was held at the Muncy Cemetery.
