MONTGOMERY -- It's out with the old and in with the new windows at a library in one part of Lycoming County.

The Montgomery Area Public Library is replacing its old leaky 25 foot windows, and that means the library will be closed until early June.

Mary Tobias says she loves to read, and goes to the Montgomery Area Public Library frequently.

"Every six or seven days. Whenever I get done with my books. I always get two at a time," Tobias said.

Tobias said she misses going to the library since it's been closed all week, And it's expected to stay closed until early June. That's because the Montgomery area public library is replacing ten of its old leaky windows...which are 25 feet high!

"We were told that our windows were deficient. During the last hurricane, our children's department flooded. In the winter, large drafts of air blow by you constantly," Debbie Stine said.

Debbie Stine is on the library's board. She says the windows were installed in 1929, and the library's heating and cooling bills are too high. Stine says work on replacing the windows began earlier this week.

"It's a major project. It's going to be almost $100,000," Stine said.

So far the library raised around $65,000 through fundraising and private donations. But they still need more donations to finish the project.

"We had to do it and unfortunately we are going on faith and hope that it will work out," Stine said.

The Montgomery Area Public Library is scheduled to reopen in early June. If you are interested in donating to the library, send a check to Montgomery Area Public Library, PO Box 87, in Montgomery, 17752. Mark your donation "Window Fund".
