MUNCY -- We are seeing signs that the gas industry boom in Lycoming County may be winding down.

Some larger companies are downsizing or moving out. Pieces of equipment from a business that left the area were auctioned off in Muncy.

An auctioneer from Alex Lyon and Son rattled off numbers while bidders waited for the right price to buy.

About 100 people showed up to check out the heavy hauling and construction equipment up for auction at Valley Heavy Haul in Muncy.

"Winch trucks, 400-inch bed trucks, so there is all kinds of equipment that takes the rig to move out on site," said Curtis Twigg.

There are bidders from out of state, but locals are buying up some of the equipment which will stay in central Pennsylvania.

"Oh, it's good. Some of the prices are fairly cheap compared to what they were three years ago," said Albert Asbury from Mansfield.

About 250 pieces of equipment were up for sale.  Some of it was once owned by TForce Energy Services in Williamsport. The rig-moving company recently left the area.

"The big rush in the oil and gas business seems to be over, but the basis of it is still steady," said Asbury.

"They just couldn't get enough work and their corporate structure weighed them down," said Russell Twigg.

The owners of Valley Heavy Haul bought some equipment from TForce before it left. Now they are selling some of that equipment at the auction.

"Doesn't mean there is no gas business here. It's a very vital, viable business and important to Pennsylvania," said Twigg.

The equipment sold at the auction went for a total of more than $3 million.
