SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — The Little League World Series is over, but the grounds crew is preparing the field at Lamade Stadium for the 3rd annual Girls With Game Experience.
"Every year, we've had a really great group, so I'm excited to see who comes out for the games as well, not just the clinic. So excited to have a full house tomorrow," said Ashlea Miller, Little League's director of softball development.
On Saturday, college softball players from Pennsylvania and out of state will travel to South Williamsport to play exhibition games. The first pitch is at 2 p.m. Parking, admission, and games are free.
"The four college teams will actually do a doubleheader, so first up, we will have Maryland University and Virginia. Next, we'll have Pitt and Penn State," explained Miller.
Before the games begin, players and coaches from each program will host a softball clinic for 85 girls ages 8 to 11. Registration for the clinic is closed.
"The softball girls are going to learn about hitting fundamentals, they're going be hitting off tees, they're gonna do front toss," said Miller. "They're also going to learn fundamentals of infield and outfield, so how to throw a ball properly, how to field a ball properly."
During the clinic, an Athlete's Unlimited professional softball player will also talk to the girls about goals and skills they can use beyond the field.
"This is one of our favorite events that we host at Little League International. Getting girls, especially as young as 8, this year; This is our first year that we've had that age group come in, just to learn the fundamental skills of softball is so important. Hopefully, they leave here happy and excited that they learned something new. They got to meet some college softball players," said Miller.
Also, on Saturday, the Little League is having a grand opening for its Flagship store. The first 100 people get a free pin.
