WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. -- One person has died after a vehicle collided with a city bus in Williamsport.
It happened around 6 a.m. Tuesday at the intersection of Maynard and West Third Streets.
A River Valley Transit bus and car collided and crashed into a building.
Police in Williamsport are checking into reports that one of the drivers failed to stop at a flashing red light.
Both vehicles crashed into the former Jackie's Kitchen, a business on West Third Street.
"The collision took place in the intersection and stopped when it hit the building here," said Williamsport Police Capt. Jody Miller.
According to investigators, there were no passengers on the bus when the crash happened. The bus driver was taken to the hospital.
Evan Smith lives nearby.
"It pushed it quite a ways. It's pretty far from the intersection," Smith said. "I woke up to caution tape around and saw the bus over there. That was all we could see. We just thought the bus ran into it, but turns out there was another car there."
Police believe the bus was headed down West Third Street. The car was coming down Maynard Street. That's when it was reported that one of the vehicles went through a flashing red light.
The driver of the car, a 49-year-old man from Lycoming County, was killed.
We met the owner of Jackie's Kitchen on West Third Street. She tells us she's not concerned about her building. Right now, she's upset that a life was lost so close to her business.
