WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — A crowd gathered near Williamsport for a day out with a good cause.
The family of Lycoming County man Bret Guisewhite held a fundraiser to try and help with the medical bills he’s incurred since his doctors diagnosed him in July with a rare and aggressive form of gallbladder cancer.
According to his family, Guisewhite became fairly known in the community as a “do-it-all” kind of person. A carpenter, he also tinkers with boat and car engines.
His daughter, Jessie Guisewhite, said the crowd is double what they expected. That might just have to do with the type of person her father is, "What is my dad like? He is the guy that gives you the shirt off his back. He will go above and beyond for anybody and everybody he meets. He will give you money he doesn’t have. He will take care of things when he can’t take care of things. He is just a completely compassionate, selfless person. So, to see the amount of people that came through for him today and donated their time or spending money on different things we’re doing here today is incredible. It actually made him cry when I FaceTimed him earlier."
Bret Guisewhite couldn’t attend because he is still recovering from two surgeries in the last week. Jessie Guisewhite said she looks forward to sharing photos and videos with him of a day she called “mind-boggling” and “heartwarming.”
