2nd annual Wyoming Valley Run

Hundreds took part in the annual road race through Luzerne County on Sunday.

LUZERNE COUNTY, Pa. — Handcyclists, runners, and walkers didn't let a little rain Sunday morning stop them from taking part in the 2nd annual Wyoming Valley Run in Luzerne County.

The 10-mile road race starts in Pittston, then crosses the river and goes south on Route 11 through West Pittston, Exeter, Wyoming, Forty Fort, and Kingston before crossing the Susquehanna River again and ending in the city of Wilkes-barre.

Organizers say they are impressed with the race's growth since its inception last year.

"Oh yeah, we surpassed last year's number. We had 961 register. We are really thankful because we really want to keep it growing so we can continue to give back to the charities," said Ben Robinson, race director.

Last year, the race raised $10,000 for five local charities. Sunday's total is yet to be determined, but will go to Blue Chip Animal Farm Refuge,

The Cancer Wellness Center of NEPA, the Greater Wyoming Valley YMCA, Northeast Sight Services, and the Wyoming Valley Children's Association.
