WILKES-BARRE, Pa. — Wyoming Valley Challenger Baseball Little League had its first game of the season Saturday at Evercor Field in Wilkes-Barre.
Challenger Baseball was established in 1989 as Little League's Adaptive Baseball Program for individuals with physical and intellectual challenges and has had a league in this part of Luzerne County since 1991.
"A lot of the kids in their high school situations, they don't have integration with other kids. So here they make friendships… It's just a really, really nice thing for the kids to get out. They get a little bit of exercise. They have that camaraderie, they have sport, which they might not get in their school situation. So it's just a really wonderful experience for everyone," said Dr. Stephen Cheskiewicz, Wyoming Valley Challenger Baseball.
The league will have games twice a week from now until August in Luzerne County.
