Work continues on mine subsidence in Luzerne County

Sunday marks the eighth day of work on the mine subsidence in Toby Creek.

LUZERNE COUNTY, Pa. — Newswatch 16 found four trucks of concrete coming and going from the site and two excavators working.

A large hole of water has now formed where the original mine subsidence happened almost a week ago.

There are also a lot of white sandbags around the subsidence site.

The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection released a statement Sunday saying, "A coffer dam was installed on the creek to eliminate the flow of water to the subsidence. Another 80 cubic yards of concrete was pumped into the subsidence today (bringing the total amount to 280 cubic yards), which was topped with clay and rocks, and the flow in Toby Creek has visibly increased. DEP expects some settling of the installed material and will continue to monitor it over the next few days."

Sunday marked the eighth day in a row of work at the site in Luzerne County.
