WILKES-BARRE -- Jurors in Luzerne County heard what could be some key testimony in the Hugo Selenski murder trial.
A witness describes seeing Selenski "sweaty" and "covered in mud" with gardening equipment on Selenski’s property where the bodies of Michael Kerkowski and Tammy Fasset were later found.
Robert Steiner took the stand for the prosecution, testifying he stopped by Hugo Selenski`s home around the time that Michael Kerkowski and Tammy Fassett went missing.
He says he found Selenski and Paul Weakley, Selenski`s accused co-conspirator, sweaty with their boots covered in mud.
Steiner says there were also gardening tools covered in mud as well.
“There was new gardening equipment and what do you call it. Pick shovels with mud and it was brand new,” said Steiner.
Steiner says he sold that house in Kingston Township to Selenski.
He testified he was suspicious of what Selenski and Weakley were doing that day.
“Yes, because the day before he asked me if I was going to be around the next day. He said he had something to do,” said Steiner.
The bodies of Kerkowski and Fassett were found on Selenski`s property in 2003 and investigators accuse Selenski and Weakley of killing the pair.
Prosecutors showed the jury a rolling pin that they say Selenski found at Kerkowski`s home and used it to beat and rob Kerkowski before they killed him and Fassett.
A retired state trooper also testified, saying when Kerkowski and Fassett first went missing in 2002, they believed Kerkowski ran away because the former pharmacist was going to be sentenced on fraud charges.
