WILKES-BARRE, Pa. — Frogs, floats, and a frolicking Frosty the Snowman joined dozens of other characters and made their way through downtown Wilkes-Barre for its annual Christmas Parade and tree lighting ceremony.
"See all the different new floats that they got coming into the parade and stuff here. We've seen a lot of things on truck and candy being flung everywhere," said David Atwell, Wilkes-Barre.
It wasn't just the chrome snowflakes, flashing lights, and live music sprinkled throughout the parade that filled downtown with families.
"My day was great. I enjoyed the whole parade," said David.
The annual lighting of Wilkes-Barre's Christmas Tree with live polka music drew folks downtown, too, as did the chance to skate on the city's ice rink.
"It's a great way to introduce kids to ice skating, but first of all, it's free. Mayor Brown purchased this before COVID, during Covid, and he thought it was a great idea to rent the plastic rink here. I was kinda pushing this for years, and now it finally happened, and just to have it right now during the Christmas season, it's just a great opportunity for these kids to learn before they go on real ice," said Karel Zubris, Ice Rink volunteer.
