Wilkes-Barre torture and murder suspects hit with more charges

Desiree Linnette and Jason Race are accused of assaulting another victim in the home where the remains of Nicole Cuevas were found earlier this year.

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. — Two people accused of torture and murder in Wilkes-Barre now face additional charges.

Aggravated assault and kidnapping charges were filed Thursday against Desiree Linnette and Jason Race, involving another victim.

Police say the two held a man captive and assaulted him because they believed he sexually assaulted an 8 year old. The victim was allegedly held at 142 Carlisle Street in July of 2023. The police investigation also showed that the victim did not sexually assault a child.

Investigators say Linnette, Race—along with Faith Beamer, Sarai Doyle, and William Wolfe—tortured and killed 38-year-old Nicole Cuevas before burying her body in the basement of the home on Carlisle Street in April of 2023.

All five were charged in April, months after Cuevas' remains were discovered in the Carlisle Street basement in February.

According to court paperwork, Cuevas, originally from Michigan, came to the area with Linnette.
