WILKES-BARRE, Pa. — If you had to choose between sidewalks, streetlights, traffic signals, or roads, which would you say needs the most attention in the city of Wilkes-Barre?
"Anybody who drives and walks can honestly tell you the roads are one of the biggest problems. That and traffic control is poor, very poor," Michael Gray said.
"We need better sidewalks," Jo Ann Raynis said.
That's just one of the questions on an online survey the city is hoping people who live, work, or spend time in Wilkes-Barre will answer.
Through this survey, officials hope to identify housing and community development needs that can be helped by federal funding.
The survey also covers housing needs, economic development, and suggestions on how to help the homeless.
"I see a lot of homeless people in the area here, and it's disturbing; it really is. People sleeping in empty lots—affordable housing is very hard to come by. So, yeah, that would be a good thing to have a little bit more development there," Gray said.
"Medicare and mental health, yeah, I think they need that. They need that," Raynis said.
The survey also asks what you think the city should prioritize most for community development, including things like parks and recycling services.
If you spend time in Wilkes-Barre and would like to add your input, you can complete the survey on the Wilkes-Barre website.
Responses will be accepted until Friday, May 3.
