Weis Market closing in the Back Mountain

The Dallas Borough location will remain open, but the Dallas Township location is 'underperforming.'

DALLAS, Pa. — The small number of holiday wreaths outside this Weis Markets in the Country Club Shopping Center in Dallas Township, in a way, represents the number of customers coming through the doors.

Weis says it will be closing this location sometime in January because officials say the store is "underperforming."

"I knew that was gonna happen when they opened two right in 10 seconds of each other," said shopper Grace Siglin.

Weis opened the Dallas Township location in 2020 after purchasing it from Thomas' Foodtown.

Weis already had a location a mile away on Memorial Highway in Dallas Borough.

"Five feet up the road, you know what I'm saying? Five feet, literally. Like, how pathetic is that? Who would do something like that? Who?" questioned shopper Rich Daubert.

Weis says the Dallas Borough location will remain open, and workers from the township store can relocate here.

"I didn't like the idea to begin with anyways, but I like this one that we're at better.," added Siglin.

Shoppers at the Dallas Township Weis tell Newswatch 16 they like that location a little bit better because they don't like making a left turn out of the Dallas Borough location. Other shoppers tell us they are not surprised the township location is closing.

"I don't know, was kind of like to inconvenience, like, really, you know what I mean? Like why would you put two stores together? It makes no sense," said Daubert.

"I always came here, so, and that one up there only has Weis products. This one has everything," added Siglin.

Newswatch 16 reached out to both Weis and the township to find out what might be replacing the market in this shopping center. We are still waiting to hear back.
