DURYEA, Pa. — A VFW in Luzerne County is marking 100 years this holiday weekend.
Duryea VFW Post 1227 on Stephenson Street celebrated the occasion with food and drink specials.
There was also live music to mark the 100th anniversary of when a group of community members in Duryea created the charter.
"It's awesome to be a part of this, to keep it around for another 100 years. Hopefully continue to look out for veterans rights and veterans advocacy and things like that as well as being a major part of the community and supporting some of the other organizations in town," said Danny Stella, Duryea VFW 1227 Commander.
Members of the Duryea VFW Post 1227 say they plan on continuing to help with area sports like Little League and Food Dignity, a low-cost community farm stand in Luzerne County.
