Valentine's Day flower fundraiser benefits West Pittston Fire Department

You can surprise your sweetheart and help the fire department raise much-needed funds.

LUZERNE COUNTY, Pa. — West Pittston's rescue truck is parked outside Driscoll's Home Center along Wyoming Avenue in the borough, but it's not for an emergency—unless you consider getting your Valentine their roses before it snows an emergency.

This is all for an annual fundraiser for the West Pittston Fire Department when folks come and buy their sweetheart roses for Valentine's Day.

"I keep on forgetting that it's for the fire department. So, I was going I was going by and I was thinking, like, 'Hey, I'd like to get my wife something really nice.' And you know what? What better thing to do to support the fire department?" said Ed Doreskewicz of Exeter.

"This supplies our equipment and our cost for fuel and all that," said firefighter Carson Crossley. "It's a lot of money to put one guy into a live fire. It barely covers one guy to put them in full gear to go into a fire, so this helps us a lot."

The fundraiser is cash only, and they will be selling flowers from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. through February 14 or until they sell out.

"Last year, we sold out on Tuesday. Hopefully, maybe it will be sold out by tonight," said Crossley.

Selling out a trailer filled with flowers is a lofty goal, but firefighters think it could happen with snow in the forecast.

"The roses are beautiful. And you're going to buy them. Buy them here," added Doreskewicz.
